This video work is inspired by the poem “The Lovers” by the German Bertolt Brecht.
The piece reflects on intimacy, distance, and the fragile balance between closeness and individuality within a relationship. Brecht’s poem speaks of two lovers who appear united, yet each remains enclosed in their own inner world.
Through moving images, subtle gestures, and shifts of light and space, the work explores the quiet tension between togetherness and separation. The lovers exist side by side, yet the human nature of their emotional landscapes unfold independently, suggesting that love does not erase solitude but rather coexists with it.
The video invites viewers to contemplate on the nature of intimate relationships are shaped by both connection and distance, and how two individuals can share a moment while still inhabiting their own private realms.
My video is based on the animation of my series of pencil drawings.
